St Joe Bay fishing status after red tide?

Post by GoodCall »

I'm heading to Cape San Blas this weekend to (hopefully) fish St Joe Bay and I was wondering if anyone has any info on the status of the fishery since the red tide canceled scallop season. Did it jack up the fish as well as the scallops? Anyone got the low down?

I was there the first week of April and launched from the area around Pig Bayou (just across from the rocks). The water temp was only 69 degrees and it was really windy. Found a small school of trout in about 1-2 foot of water on the point just past the long dock. Took a charter out and drifted around Blacks Island and Windmark Beach and nada. We headed out to the lumber wreck just offshore and caught a bunch of sheepshead.

My son fished a tournament in the SJB about 10 days ago. He caught a lot of trout but only one (28") red, and felt it was much better than just a few weeks earlier.

Sounds promising. I was a little worried.
