Increase to my fleet

Post by Kellerqx »

Well I have been going to the Jacksonville and St. Marks area for a few years with my kayak ( travel from North Alabama ). The combination of roundtrip long drives and lots of paddling makes for a worn out person. So I'm adding a 12ft skiff type with a 8hp to my fleet to hopefully cover more water without being worn out when returning. Resulting in more frequent trips to coastal waters.

I want to obey the FL laws, but So far all I can find as requirements are....
1. PFD
2. Whistle
3. Lights, if out in dark, but no plans for night fishing
4. I will get a fire extinguisher, but not sure its a requirement due to the length

Not sure about the following for either law or common sense.
- any special permits or documentation for out of state visitors
- any special warning devices
- Paddle seems to be common sense but not sure how much I could paddle back, but I guess slow is better that NO

All my other kayak gear will carry over.

Just wanting to make sure I got my ducks in a row, don't want to be that idiot on the water ya know. ...... I value the advice and mistakes from others, its cheaper that way!

Any other suggestions for weekend trips is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Be sure to have your fishing license and boat registration on the water.
