St. George Island - Plantation Launch

Post by Willie »

Hi - I'll be in the Plantation from June 10th - 17th. Does anyone know if the launch at the end of Pelican Lane is still open?
Are there any other launch areas I should consider?

Thanks in advance

Willie, I've only fished on St. George a few times so I'm by no means an expert on the various launch sites(disclaimer). That being said, I really like the launch down at the State Park ( I think it used to be a boy scout area or something of the sort) if you are interested in fishing on the inside of the island. You are right in the middle of some nice oyster bars that have produced well for me in about 5 minutes of paddling/peddling. Check out google satellite. I have caught the two largest trout I have ever caught on St. George (both were caught from a dock). The best reds have been from the kayak around the bars. I hooked, and subsequently lost a large cobia from the same dock that I caught the trout from. It was late March and a massive school was running inside the island pushing a huge "V' wake. They literally ran under the dock, drag started screaming,... the end.

Be sure to post and let us know how you do. Good Luck!

Pelican Lane is a good launch site.

If we had enough money to have access to the Plantations in SGI we would probably own boats and not kayaks. But i am sure if the have a launch over on that side it has to be catered with a glass of champagne with OJ in it at the launch and there fore very freaking nice.
