Mr John, St Marks Refuge

Read where Mr John Mckenzie who often worked the gate at the lighthouse was stabbed in a horrific event on march 30, along with his daughter and her boyfriend who also passed.

Dammit!! I THOUGHT that was him, when i saw the picture of him in the paper! His face looked familiar but out of place without his hat. I was hoping against hope that it wasn't John of St Marks!

He always had a kind word for me when I passed through his gate...letting me know of the latest whooping crane spottings, what animals had crossed his path and he always inquired about my outdoor adventures.

What a horrible tragedy.

Thank you for sharing, Phillip.

On Saturday 7/14, I noticed they installed a bench in memory of John aka Mac the Ranger. I ate lunch on it and tilted a frosty adult beverage in his memory.
It is a beautiful place for reflection, seems fitting as he often stopped and stood there during his rounds.

Perfect.
A beautiful, peaceful tribute.
Love the John Burroughs inscription. It speaks to me so eloquently.

Thank you for sharing this, Ray.

Btw, where is Tallayakee? Phillip, are you still out there??

A beautiful tribute. Thanks, Ray. One day I'll get out to your lighthouse launch.
