Catchin' Up. Warning, lots of pictures!

I haven't been posting much lately. Things have just been busy and, besides that, the kayaks and fishing equipment have been idle. Regardless, I thought I'd catch you up with what's going on in my part of the world.

First, and most sadly, the old white dog that always accompanied me wherever I went, is no longer with us. He was my buddy and I won't even try to replace him, but a little girl came along and has helped to fill the void. Meet Gracie Mae.

Fall is coming on in the northwoods. The leaves are turning, the sunrises are colorful, and the water is getting cooler. Winter is almost certain to follow. We experienced some of it in NC.

After NC, I went east to PA for some grouse and woodcock hunting. Didn't do too well on ruffed grouse but we did OK on the woodcocks. OK on the eats, drinks and relaxing too.

And then back home where the sunrises are red and the nights are turning cold. I wonder what Gracie Mae will think when she experiences her first snowfall.

I forgot about this picture from NC. This is one of those "oh crap!" moments when you're kayaking in the mountains and suddenly hear a water falls ahead.

Sorry for the loss of your irreplaceable companion.
Looks like Gracie Mae is fitting right in to the family. Lucky pup :)

As always, absolutely stunning pictures! You sure live in a beautiful part of the country.

I'm sorry to hear of the loss of your old friend, BackCast. Gracie Mae is gorgeous.

How much wood would a woodcock cock if a woodcock could cock wood?

Thanks. We've had Gracie Mae for about 2 months now and she seems to be pretty well settled in. Life sure is different with a 4 month old pup after having an 11 year old in the house.

fishinbug, I always thought that was, "how much wood could a woodchuck chuck?" Most of the wood damage associated with these woodcocks is the result of me shooting behind them while they maneuver through the saplings. :? They're funny little birds and I always have mixed feeling when hunting them. On one hand they're great game birds that provide a challenge and make great woodcock/bacon/jalapeno poppers. On the other hand, they're just such neat birds that I'd always practice shoot and release if that was an option. As a compromise, we limited the first day but gave them all free passes the next.

Good choice on the Samuel Smith Oatmeal Stout. :A1

You're probably confusing your rhymes with Peter Piper.
