good story & pic's. My dad was a B-24 co-pilot, and doesn't talk about it much, but has photo's he took of planes in formation but on fire, falling, etc.
It's hard to imagine taking pictures while getting shot at.... But also hard to imagine what he was thinking when he stuck his arm out the window to see what the wind felt like, and dislocated his shoulder. Like you said, 20 something yr old kids at war.
