Hickory Mounds - Launching & Tides

Postby Rx-Fishing » Sun Apr 19, 2009 3:06 pm

I'm planning on launching at Hickory Mounds next weekend. Low tides in the morning will be running close to one foot or less of water. I'm going to be with several other guys, so I don't want a bunch of complaining that we can't launch because there's not enough water. What's been your experience with the tide launching from there? Thanks in advance!

My experience is that no matter who your friends are they will complain.

05:57AM 0.5 L
12:21PM 2.8 H
06:30PM 1.1 L

But the weather is gonna suck IF the forecast is right.

Mostly cloudy with a chance of showers and isolated thunderstorms in the morning...Then partly cloudy in the afternoon. Highs 74 to 79. Southwest winds 15 to 20 mph. Chance of rain 40 percent.

They will not complain if they catch fish.

Going to HM for the first time this week.

Do you just park along the road and push the kayak in or do I need to carry the kayak a bit???

Thx.

slide right in. there are 2 launch spots there, about an 1/8th of a mile apart. leave bread crumbs as it's easy to get confused coming and going if you don't know the area.

Thx for the reply.
I'll take the GPS for a backup plan.

Will low tides affect us getting out or in?

Holy reviving dead threads, Batman.

There is a friendly tourney on Saturday. http://www.fcka.net/phpbb3/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=4058.

There has already been a short discussion on launching ~ 7:00 on Saturday.

if there is a negative tide that day, you may have to do some scootin, sloshin, or walkin. otherwise, you should be fine.

During the low tide you paddle about a half mile out and the fish are everywhere waiting on the tide to rise.
