Lightning strikes, power outages and insurance

Postby cotton on Thu Jul 15, 2010 10:46 pm

I've been on Talquin for over 15 years now and have had more power outages than any place I've ever lived. We usually lose power at least once a month. Tonight my power was out for over 2 hours. When it did come back on the fun started. Here is what I lost:

I have no water, my well is fried.
2 TVs
3 Direct TV receivers, I have no TV.
1 stove
1 answering machine
2 phones
1 dvd/vcr
1 expensive eliptical
1 recumbant bike
1 nintendo wii
1 cheap alarm clock

Tomorrow we start with the insurance company. $6000 dollars of damage and a $1000 deductable. I figure I might get a package of gum out of this.

I have my priorities straight.
Had the well fixed by 10 am. the next day. You gotta have water.
2nd went out and bought a new alarm clock.
3rd, used that alarm clock to get up at 4 a.m this morning and went fishing.

I'm in a beter mood now to deal with the rest.

The way I see it is that without all of that stuff (TVs, answering machine, phones, dvd/vcr,
excercise equipment & video games) you'll sure have a lot more time for other things...like kayak fishing! Sounds peaceful and relaxing to me. Could be a nice change of pace.
