Boats

Post by Flint River Pirate »

How many of you guys still have a boat? I know several of you have gone to exclusive kayak fishing only. I was just curious if the majority of you guys still have a boat?

I was talking about power boats, but you make a good point Jeff.

Since getting a kayak I sold my Kenner 18 but still have the Tiara 2900 Open...will sell ASAP, might mean less Cobia(have friends with tall towers so I'll go with them) but I like chasing redfish in 10" water-now thinking of getting something with pedals. Kayak fishing reminds me of being a kid with a jon boat and hand made trailer with bicycle forks for axles to get to the bay, that made memories....not mechanics bills. BK asked me 'why I got into kayak fishing', I guess thats the answer.

I still keep my Mako 236 over at Bay City but to tell the truth, I haven't taken it out since last November. I can be out on the water in my yak fishing in less time than it takes to gas it up, not to mention how much more peaceful and relaxing paddling is. I see a lot more cool stuff sitting at the waterline too. And no carbon footprint unless you count breathing out.

I enjoy fishing from a boat and a kayak. The actual catching of fish is more enjoyable in a kayak but boats have other advantages. For example, it's hard to take the family scalloping in a kayak or go get a grouper. My current inventory includes a bay boat, bass boat, 3 kayaks.

I haven't owned a power boat in over 5 years and have only been out on 2 in the last 3 years. I agree it reminds me of when I was kid, and it is so much more relaxing.

I had a canvas over wood frame Yak that I used to fished in the family lake. Later, I removed the canvas and replaced it with 3 layers of fiberglass cloth.

Sometimes I would tie it to the seat and handle bars of my old Polo bike and then ride alongside it to get it to the Bay to go snapper blue and striper fishing.
