inside of the impoundment

Post by ShallowMinded »

I'm Brand new, Please dont flame me. I am a stranger in your country. I visited Hickory Mound last week for the first time. What an awesome place!! Saw eagles, gators and more migratory birds than I knew existed. Bad news is it was blowing like stink. Opportunities limited. Whitecaps in my coffee cup. So my stupid question is... are there fish on the inside of the impoundment?

Me thinks you'd do better to hit hm on a more conducive day. if the seas were whipped and the wind was brutal, seek out a place that would be better protected from whatever the direction the weather was presenting. To answer your question about the inside of the impoundment, my guess would be that fishing would be pretty slow inside. Though waltdawg (rip) once told me that he caught a huge largemouth bass on the salty side of the impoundment, so perhaps the bass may be thick on the not-so-salt side.

I thought Shallowminded was Tony?

I caught a Redfish from the platform on the west end of the spillway on the impoundment side 2 years ago in February. My buddy caught a trout that day. The place is full of crabs, so there should be plenty of Reds in the winter.

Welcome, Shallowminded!! Yes, the forum can be a strange land but we're a friendly bunch. :D Come on over to Saturday's get-together and join in on the fun! Look forward to meeting you.

I, too, have caught reds (and crabs!) with crabs! on the "in" side of the dike.
