Looking for a less costly reel for salt water. I like the Stradic , but they cost as much as my truck. Any other good recomendations?

From a fellow cheapskate. I went thru a lot of wothless junk before I settled on this.

I like the Shimano Sonora($49.99) paired with at 7' Ugly stik light($39.99). I get 20% off the rod with a facebook coupon at Sports Authority.

Total with the coupon: $80 and it's a pretty nice outfit.
A better Kayaker today, than yesterday.

My saltwater spinning rig is the same 7' uglystik LITE rod (cork handles) and I use a quantum incyte40 reel. If you can find this reel.....it is the best 50 dollars you will ever spend on a reel. I have had mine for going on 4 years now...and have never done more than rinse it off...and it spins like new. No noise, no hesitation just lovelyness. The crankhandle does have a tiny bit of pitting from the salt....but other than that it even looks new. Great great reel for the money.
They are getting hard to find though. Not sure why they were discontinued or whatever...I think they were replaced in the quantum line with the catalyst.
I got mine way back and paid 40dollars for it at kevins....2 years later I got another one from there for 50 bucks for freshwater.

Take a look at the Smimano Saros, it has done pretty good for me in the past. You can get em' for around 110.

Fwiw

Baitcasting in saltwater I have two old model shimano curado's and two quantum accurist pt's.
I know you were asking about spinning reels...but just in case.

P.s.

Sports authority have a 50% off sale going on right now that includes a lot of decent fishing stuff. I picked up a shimano spinning rod for 12bucks.

My current favorite spinning reel is the Sahara. Are more expensive reels better? Sure. Ya' get what ya' pay for. But I feel confident that as long as I do my part in taking care of it, I'll never lose a fish that I can blame on the reel.

I feel the same way about the same two Citicas I've been using for almost 3 years. In fact I'm thinking about maybe next time I buy reels stepping down to the Caenan.

More simply put; better (more expensive) isn't always necessary.
