I've never caught peacocks but Guineas and chickens put up a pretty good fight. Maybe Talltails will add some info about fighting a sea gull.

Well... pelicans suck on hook and line. Especially if the charter captain wants to keep all of the other baits in the spread. Mouth fills up with water and you end up reeling in nature's own drift sock.

Pelicans like 8-10 inch catfish on natural shrimp. I prefer using a kahle hook tied off about 10 inches from an egg sinker.

When you pull the catfish out of the water just a little bit too slow, that pelican will try to steal a meal.

My kid brother once caught a duck on a plastic worm - they can peel off the drag if you let them get flying. Myself, I've about gotten two alligators on buzzbaits recently...

When I fly into MIA (and have time to kill) I sometimes drive around the airport area with my rental car and travel rods and fish small lakes/ponds for peacocks. I have caught a couple on fly but have more luck with rapalas on ultralight. All the waters around the airport hold peacocks and my experience has been.... the faster the retrieve the better.

I grew up in the ft lauderdale area and I have caught alot of peacocks. I was never big into fly fishing but I have caught them on flies and it is a blast. Peacock are one of the strongest fish and a ton of fun to catch.

anson, where in the lauderdale area did you grow up? schools? i went to nova and lived in hollywood growing up.
