Carp on a top water lure?

Post by abcarias »

Hooked a 25 inch or so grass carp on wild colored baby rapala this week while trying to find a fat, aggressive momma bass. It came up and inhaled it. Broke me off after a few minutes. No more 4 lb test for me :-(. Has anyone out there caught carp on lures? I catch them on bait sometimes, even flies, but never on a lure.

Caught 3 or 4 on topwater over the past year or two. Also caught a couple on crank baits. I used to think it was a fluke, but I've watched them come up and hit the lure.

I have too. Mine was 32" and was a hell of a battle for that 10 minute fight. Really pretty fun, if you could figure out how to catch them all the time they would be worth targeting.

I've caught a few on crankbaits and one on a spinnerbait. I even caught one on a live shiner.

Outstanding catch, brad! What a thrill!
Way to go!

I've only caught one carp. It was on a small crank bait. Hit it hard and took off! Very exciting.

I've watched bk catch a bunch and it always seems to be on something small, like the little dressed poppers or cranks or like the little rapala that yours hit, Steve.
Love to see them swirl around and then POUNCE! 8O

What a fun gamefish!

I caught 3 last year.
1 on a small sebile stick shad.
1 on a baby spook.
1 on a trick worm.

My largest was 27". I would quit bass fishing if I could catch 1 every hour.

I donated a crankbait to one this week. The darn thing played possum. Stupid me reached down and grabbed my line thinking he was done. He snapped my line.

Another this morning. They love poppers in quiet water.
